WellVoy Newsletter January14, 2024

  • If you're ready to put time and effort into a diet, it's necessary to know the #1 diet of 2024.

  • The overall winner for 2024 is the Mediterranean diet, according to  2024 edition of U.S. News & World Report's Best Diets rankings.

  • The Mediterranean diet is really more a lifestyle approach than a diet.

  • The hallmarks of a best diet include balance, maintainability, palatability, family-friendliness, sustainability, along with healthfulness.

  • The MedDiet shines a spotlight on healthy foods, it's flexible, it's tasty, and it doesn't completely cut out certain foods or groups.

  • The Mediterranean diet also earns the top spot for easiest diet, healthiest diet, best for heart health, best for diabetes management, and best for bone and joint health.

  • Numerous studies have found the Mediterranean diet can reduce the risk of diabetes, high cholesterol, dementia, memory loss, depression, and breast cancer.

“ Vegetables, fruits, beans, legumes, whole grains, and some healthy fats like nuts and olive oil should form the foundation of every meal. At least two times a week, add seafood. Finally, allow for a moderate amount of dairy, eggs, and poultry each week. Treat red meat and sweets as an occasional treat, and you're set for life."

2# Are you drinking enough water!?

  • Water accounts for 60% of your body.

  • Staying hydrated helps to keep your memory sharp, your mood stable and your motivation intact.

  • Water helps your skin stay supple, helps your body cool down when it's hot, allows your muscles and joints to work better and helps clean toxins from your body via your kidneys.

  • How much water should you be drinking? According to the National Academy of Sciences, adult men need about 13 cups per day of fluid, and adult women need about 9.

  • One of the best way to know if you're adequately hydrated is to monitor your urine color: If it's light yellow (the color of lemonade or straw), that means you're probably drinking enough.
